Sounds Modern presents: “More direct, more immediate, more physical:” music shaped by the art of Jackson Pollock. Jackson Pollock had a major influence on the music of the late 20th century. Composer Earle Brown described Pollock’s work as one of “the earliest, and still the predominant influences on my conceptual attitude;” Morton Feldman said it turned him toward “a sound world more direct, more immediate, more physical than anything that had existed heretofore.” Sounds Modern will celebrate Pollock’s work with a performance of music by Brown and Feldman from the early 1960’s that reflects the spirit and practice of Jackson Pollock.
