Artist Frank Stella took great inspiration in the life and work of Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757). Inspired by modern composers inspired by Scarlatti and by Stella himself, Sounds Modern will celebrate Stella’s art and the Modern’s retrospective of his work with a concert that includes works by Franco Donatoni, Salvatore Sciarrino, Aldo Clementi, and Javier Jacinto, among others. Disclaimer: very little will actually sound like Scarlatti. This concert will feature Elizabeth McNutt (flute, Sounds Modern director), Shannon Wettstein (piano), Christopher Deane (percussion), and Andrew May (violin), along with saxophone quartet Mélange (Kyle Stec, Nick Allington, Alexander Richards, and Tony Barrette). Admission is free and open to the public (museum admission is separate).
