In celebration of the Modern’s exhibition of Recent Acquisitions 2002-2020, Sounds Modern will give a concert of repeat performances: music from past concerts celebrating artists who are also featured in the current exhibition. As we prepare to “replay” a work, musicians discover new insights and perspectives; in the shared act of performing and listening, our community reinvents the music together. The program will feature White Helmets white as death by Niloufar Nourbaksh, Fratres by Arvo Part, Joy Boy by Julius Eastman, and Cobra by John Zorn.
The event starts at 2:00 pm CST on April 16, 2022, in the auditorium of the Modern (3200 Darnell Street, Fort Worth, TX 76107); admission is free and open to the public, and you can also watch on line. An all-star roster of adventurous North Texas musicians will include Sounds Modern founders Elizabeth McNutt (flute) and Andrew May (violin), pianist Paul Slavens, electronic musicians Stephen Lucas and Aaron Brent, vocalist Sarah Ruth Alexander, bassists Steven Heffner and Aaron Gonzalez, percussionist Christopher Teal, violinist Mia Detwiler, violist Kathleen Crabtree, cellist Kourtney Newton, and conductor Joseph Klein.
