May 5, 2012: Coming Together at the Modern

click here to see the program

A provocative text and a powerful concept make Frederic Rzewski’s minimalist masterpiece Coming Together a fitting companion to Glenn Ligon’s America retrospective at the Fort Worth Modern. Intense, driving music played by the Sounds Modern ensemble will accompany spoken words written by political activist Sam Melville, written shortly before he died in the Attica prison uprising. Note: owing to illness, J. Paul Slavens is unable to narrate; Matt Albert will provide the narration instead. Admission is free and open to the public (museum admission is separate).
