In conjunction with the Big Camera / Little Camera exhibition of Laurie Simmons’ work, Sounds Modern presents Broken Dolls, a concert on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at 2 pm  in the Auditorium of the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum. The program features works in which women composers explore the dangerous rhythms of feminine identity, agency, and domesticity in American life. Like Laurie Simmons’ photographs, the works on this concert explore dizzyingly impossible perspectives and scenarios that show the dark humor of seemingly harmless, commonplace elements. Featured composers include Elizabeth Baker, Eve Beglarian, Elizabeth Brown, Sungji Hong, Missy Mazzoli, Alex Temple, and the first Texas incarnation of the Feminist Improvising Group.  Performers will include violist Mike Capone, violinists Mia Detwiler and Andrew May, cellist Kourtney Newton, pianists Anatolia Ioannides and Éva Polgár, bassoonist Jolene Masone, vocalist Sarah Alexander, vocalist and accordionist Elaine DiFalco, and flutist and Sounds Modern founder Elizabeth McNutt. Admission is free and open to the public (museum admission is separate).
