Sounds Modern will give the last of four free pop-up concerts in Denton on May 23, at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center. Music from Parallel Worlds will feature chamber music by DinĂ© composer Raven Chacon, 2023 Pulitzer prize winner; composer and educator Asha Srinivasan, whose musical language draws upon both her Western training and her Indian heritage; and the late Julius Eastman, a ground-breaking African-American minimalist composer. Sound Modern’s director, flutist Elizabeth McNutt, will be joined by vocalist Sarah Ruth Alexander, violist Daphne Gerling, violinists Mia Detwiler and Andrew May, pianist Stephen Lucas, cellist Kourtney Newton, percussionist Patrick Overturf, and clarinetist Alexander Ravitz.
The performance will begin at 6:30 pm on Thursday, May 23, at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, 400 East Hickory Street Denton, TX, 76201. The event, presented by the Greater Denton Arts Council as part of their Thursday Evening series, is free and open to the public. Funding from the U.S. Department of Treasury American Rescue Plan Act through the City of Denton contributed to making this performance possible.
